In a bid to widen scope of Operation Tigwirane Manja Campaign, Malawi Leader President Dr Lazarus Chakwera on Tuesday evening held a virtual meeting , with Prof. Oramah, on Malawi’s continuing need for international support for relief efforts in response to the humanitarian crisis occasioned by Cyclone Freddy in the short term and for recovery and reconstruction in the long term.
Afrixim Bank, has since ordered immediate release of $500,000 in support of Operation Tigwirane Manja Campaign which Malawi Leader President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is coordinating.
The Bank president His Excellency Prof. Benedict Oramah pledged a donation of US$ 500,000 towards the relief efforts the President is coordinating following the virtual meeting the two held.
The donation will soon be channeled through the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) to ensure that Afrexim Bank’s support is used in a manner that strengthens the capacity of governance institutions in executing their Constitutional mandate as the primary mechanism for helping those affected by the Cyclone in a way that does not erode their agency or undermine their long term resilience against future climate change shocks.
In his remarks President Chakwera expressed gratitude for the generous donation and Afrexim Bank’s decisive act of solidarity with Malawi and its message of condolence to its people.
His Excellency also commended Prof. Oramah for his leadership in ensuring that Afrexim Bank’s credentials as an all-weather partner that carries the burdens of vulnerable countries like Malawi as its own are plain for all to see.
