Cracks continue to widen in the former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as the party announced relieving on duty its governor for the southern region, Charles Mchacha for opposing the decision to endorse former head of state Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as the 2025 presidential elections candidate.

Organising secretary for the party Chimweme Chipungu confirmed the development with the media on Friday evening.

Mchacha booted out

“It’s just a strategy as we are approaching the elections he has since been replaced by Thomps,” he said.

When contacted, Mchacha said he had just been hearing of his firing on social media, but is yet to receive an official letter.

“I am just hearing from people that I have been kicked out of the party. I have not yet received an official document about my dismissal,” said Mchacha.

Mchacha was elected to the Southern Region governor position through an elective conference that DPP held in 2018.
