A friend in need is a friend indeed – the case of Malawi and Scotland

On 6 March, 2022, the Scottish Government donated £400,000 to Malawi Government in order to support recovery from tropical storms Ana which affected Malawi agriculture.

At that time Hundreds of thousands of people were displaced by severe flooding as a result of Tropical Storm Ana. The money was part of the Storm Ana Emergency Appeal to support the survivors.

Apart from that, the Scotland has been helping Malawi in areas of Health so that people here are able to access Covid- 19 vaccine.

That is why having this in mind , barely hours after witnessing the coronation of King Charles lll on Saturday, President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera held bilateral discussions with the newly- elected Scottish First Minister- Humza Yousaf.

During the discussion, President Chakwera expressed hope of continued cordial relationship between the two countries.

The Malawi leader acknowledged the good relationship which has existed between two countries and expressed hope that the ties will grow because the First Minister has a better understanding of Malawi.

The First Minister visited Malawi in 2014 when he was Minister of External Affairs and International Development.

According to an update on President Chakwera’s official Facebook page, the
Malawi leader further expressed gratitude to the Scottish government for its pledge and support for Cyclone Freddy victims and cholera outbreak respectively.
