Airtel Malawi boosts prize money for Top 8 tournament

Airtel Malawi has announced an increase in the prize money for the Airtel Top 8 tournament, raising the total prize pool to K35 million from K30 million last year.

This move is a significant boost to the tournament, which has become one of the most popular and highly anticipated events in Malawian football.

According to Norah Chavula-Chirwa, Head of Brand & Public Relations at Airtel, the increased prize money is part of the company’s efforts to promote football development in Malawi and motivate teams to perform at their best.

“We are committed to supporting the growth of football in Malawi, and this increased prize money is a testament to our dedication to the sport,” Chavula-Chirwa said.

In addition to the increased prize money, teams participating in the tournament will also enjoy improved participation rewards. Each team will receive K3 million, up from K2.5 million last season, while the runners-up will walk away with K12 million, an increase from K10 million.

The ‘Man of the Match’ prize has also been increased from K100,000 to K115,000 per game, providing an added incentive for players to shine.

The Airtel Top 8 tournament is one of the most prestigious competitions in Malawian football, featuring the top eight teams in the country.
