Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) commissioner Calorine Mfune says all is set for the local government by-elections in three wards of Karonga North Constituency on Tuesday next week.
The wards are Rukulu, Chilanga and Kapolo.
Mfune who is also chair of legal services committee at MEC says Tuesday will be an important day for people living in the aforementioned wards to choose their preferred representatives.
She was speaking this on Friday at Kamuzu International Airport(KIA) in Lilongwe when she was receiving ballot papers and result sheets for the polls.
“It will be an important day for them and as a commission, we are well prepared for the by-elections,” she said.
A total of 21 candidates have been approved to contest in the by-elections.
The by-elections follow the conviction of three ward councilors in September last year who were found guilty of fraudulently pocketing K2.4 million from vendors in exchange for plots.
