The stage is set for the highly anticipated People’s Development Party (PDP) convention, scheduled to take place at the COMESA Hall in Blantyre. According to Rhodes Nsonkho, the party’s spokesperson, around 1,200 delegates are expected to participate in the event.

The convention will see the selection of over 40 key leadership positions within the party. Nsonkho emphasized that while most positions will be contested, there are certain posts for which candidates will be elected unopposed. For instance, Kondwani Nankhumwa is expected to assume the position of party leader without facing any competition.

This convention marks a significant moment for the PDP, as the party gears up to solidify its leadership structure and strategize for the upcoming political landscape. The unopposed election of Nankhumwa reflects a strong consensus within the party, but the various contested positions suggest a lively and competitive atmosphere ahead.

As the PDP strives to present a united front, this convention could be a defining moment in shaping the party’s future and its role in national politics.
