By Staff Reporter

Babatunde Adepoju scored a brace while Hasan Kajoke scored the other goal as Bullets overpowered Mafco FC on Saturday to win the Airtel Top 8 first leg quarter-final clash that took place at Kamuzu Stadium.

Hassan Kajoke scored first for the People’s team just two minutes into the game after receiving a pass from Gomezgani Chirwa.

The Salima based soldiers tried to equalise in the 21st minute but Joseph Donsa’s shot went over the cross-bar for a goalkick

Babatunde Adepoju increased the lead at the 30th minute with a brilliant tap in after an assist from Kajoke.

The Nigerian scored his second goal and Bullets’ third in the 43rd minute after receiving a pass from Chimwemwe Idana.

Mafco’s Walusungu Mpata tried to score in the 62nd minute but Bullets’ goalie Ernest Kakhobwe produced a fantastic save to deny the soldiers an equaliser.

However, Martin Masoatheka pulled one back for the visitors in the 92nd minute to end the game 3-1 in favour of Bullets.

Mafco will need a 2-0 win in the second leg for them to progress to the next level.

The second leg will be played on Sunday 21st November 2021 at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa.

The champion of this year’s Airtel Top 8 tournament will walk away with K17million whereas the runner-up will get K5 million.
