Ben Longwe says activists not shaken with demos frustrations

By Vincent Gunde

A Malawian human rights activist based in South Africa Charles Ben Longwe, says activists are not shaken and that they will continue to fight so hard until poor Malawians who are dying of hunger and meeting tough economic problems in the country are rescued.

He said currently, their plans to deliver the petition to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera at the State House over what they call failure by him to run the state of affairs are still on and not blocked at all.

Longwe said on October 18, 2023 there is an appeal of the demonstrations failure in Lilongwe as slated on 11th October, 2023 saying this appeal will be heard before Justice Kenyatta Nyirenda alleging him that he is MCP and part of the Judiciary is MCP too.

He claimed that there is selective application of justice in Malawi observing that government released defilement suspect Agape Khombe deliberately and is being used to frustrate activists and demonstrators so that they don’t hold demonstrations in Lilongwe.

Speaking through an audio clip circulating in various social media platforms, Ben Longwe said while the Human Rights Ambassadors (HRAs) is waiting for an outcome of the appeal case before Justice Kenyatta Nyirenda, the organization will be holding demonstrations in Blantyre at a date to be announced soon.

Longwe said the Blantyre demonstration will be a massive one, those in Limbe will meet in Limbe so too, those of Chilomoni, Mbayani, Zingwangwa, Chilobwe, Bangwe and Ndirande to start demonstrations in their respective locations to present a petition to Sanjika Palace.

He said since Lilongwe District Commissioner Lawford Palani and the Malawi Police Service (MPS) have declared Lilongwe a no-go district to activists and demonstrators, Malawians will remove all MCP offices in the Southern Region to relocate to Lilongwe.

The Activist has claimed that they have followed all the laws but the MCP led government is seeming to have its own laws from the Republican Constitution to be blocking all demonstrations citizens wants to share their concerns and grievances to President Chakwera.

He said as all the protocols have been observed and landed into deaf ears of the country’s leaders, patriotic citizens will not allow the MCP to be given space to have their offices in all other regions of Malawi apart from Lilongwe.

Quoted Longwe in his audio clip:“We will hit back, the war has just started, demonstrations are in the constitution of the Republic, from Blantyre, HRA crew members will be in Mangochi while 25th October, 2023 we are going back to Lilongwe in no retreat and surrender.”

He has since reminded the authorities in Malawi that no one has power over the Republican Constitution saying Malawi is for all, if some other people are eating good other Malawians especially the poor are in pain and suffering.

Meanwhile, Longwe has announced that the HRA will deliver a notice for demonstrations for the hungry Malawians to be provided with food at the house of Lilongwe District Commissioner Lawford Palani reminding him that Malawians will not allow him to be treating activists as fools.
