One of the country’s top commercial institutions Ecobank Malawi has on Wednesday donated K5. 1 Blantyre Police Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Installation Project.
The project is aimed at eradicating crime activities in the Malawi’s commercial city and its surrounding areas.
Speaking with journalists, the bank’s Chief Financial Officer Fabiano Makolija said the Central Business District of Blantyre and the banking business require maximum security hence their coming in with the financial boost.
“It is now time to make Malawi a crime-free city and that is why we are making this donation today,” he said.
On his part, South West Region Commissioner Richard Luhanga said robbers are becoming more sophisticated and that security institutions should up their game in fighting them.
“It is for this reason that we have embarked on this project, which will require about K18 million. We thank the corporate world [through players] like Ecobank for the assistance,” Luhanga said.
Currently, the Blantyre Police needs about K20 million for the CCTV installation project to be fully implemented.
