Body of Karonga Central former MP Dr Cornelius Mwalwanda reburied in Karonga

There has been a second funeral ceremony for the late Dr Cornelius Mwalwanda former Member of Parliament for Karonga Central who died of Covid on 16^th July 2020 and was originally buried in Lilongwe . Covid measures at the time of his death meant the family had to bury him in Lilongwe as they couldn’t take the body to Karonga

After months of deliberation, the family felt now was the right time to take the son of Karonga back to his home village where he will lay forever. As such his body was exhumed from Lilongwe Area 18 cemetery and reburied at Lemero in Karonga

Dr. Mwalwanda, a development economist once served as a cabinet minister during Joyce Banda and Bingu Wa Mutharika regimes.He obtained his doctorate in Economics-International Trade and Finance in 1979 from University of Toronto in Canada.Mwalwanda once served as Principal Advisor and Head of United Nations Economic Commission for Africa at Geneva Office.

His relative Leonard Mwalwanda succeeded him as the Member of Parliament for the area
