FCB Nyasa Big Bullets started their title defense with a 1-all draw against Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.
Bullets took the lead through Lanjesi Nkhoma, who tapped in a pass from Alick Lungu in the 39th minute but the central bankers equalized in the 47th minute through Nickson Mwase who headed in from a corner.
After the match former Bullets midfielder Chimwemwe Idana was voted man of the match.
Bullets lost Idana to Tanzania’s Mbeya City but he was loaned out to the area 47 side until July this year.
In other matches played on the opening day, Mafco FC beat Chitipa United 2-1 at Chitowe Stadium.
Walusungu Mpata and Bernard Chimayimba were on target for the Salima-based soldiers while Chitipa got their consolation from Stimela Muyira who scored from the penalty spot.
Moyale Barracks and Karonga United drew 1-1 with goals from Raphael Phiri and Josiah Duwa respectively.
