Two first-half goals from Babatubde Adepoju and Chimwemwe Idana helped Nyasa Big Bullets to go a point above Blue Eagles on the log table as the People’s team beat Red Lions 2-0 at Balaka Stadium on Saturday.
In an open game, Bullets might have built a comfortable lead much earlier, but Adepoju and Patrick Mwaungulu spurned a couple of golden opportunities in the first 10 minutes.
The Nigerian drew first blood in the 15th minute from the penalty spot following a foul on him by Lions’ goalkeeper Jacob Kaunda.
Chimwemwe Idana increased Bullets’ lead just seconds to the half-hour mark after he was found unmarked in the box by Ernest Petro.
The army side tried their best to find the back of the net through Willard John and Royal Bokosi but goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba made sure that the home side leave the pitch with no single goal.
Bullets have now accumulated 26 points from 10 games followed by Eagles who have 25 points but have a chance to go back on top if they win tomorrow against Dedza Dynamos.
