The Malawi Bureau of Standards(MBS) has urged companies in the country to keep making high-quality products that are marketable both on local and international markets.

The call was made by MBS Board Chairperson Dr. Davline Chokazinga during the 2024 quality certification awards ceremony held at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre on Monday.

“As MBS, we are urging all companies in the country to keep making high-quality products so as they are marketable both on local and international markets. Low quality products or goods cannot find space on the international market.

‘’These awards today motivate businesses to keep up their good work since it contributes to the nation’s economic growth. The acceptance of our products abroad leads to a growth in forex within our nation,” he said.

Chokazinga warned that  any company found not producing high-quality products is at a high risk of having its quality certificate revoked.

On her part, MBS Director of Quality Assurance Services, Grace Chaonamwene Meleka expressed excitement over the increase in number of companies and business operators who are getting quality certificates from the bureau.

MBS is a statutory organization established in 1972 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 51:02) of the Laws of Malawi (Amended as Act No 14 of 2012), with a mandate to promote metrology, standardization and quality assurance of commodities and of the manufacture, production, processing or treatment thereof; and further to provide for matters incidental to, or connected with standardization.

The bureau is governed by a Board of Directors, the MBS Board, which is appointed by Government.

Its mission is to promote quality and standardization towards the strengthening of the economy of Malawi and towards enhancing the quality of life of its entire people.
