The Catholic Bishops from Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe have established an inter-regional conference called the Association of Catholic Bishops Conferences of Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe (ACBC-MAZAZi).

The bishops announced this on Thursday at a press conference in Salima at the end of their second sub-regional meeting.

According to Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) President Archbishop George Desmond Tambala, this move aims to foster a strong working relationship among bishops in the three countries, enabling them to collaboratively address challenges in various sectors, including health and education.

Tambala added that the association’s headquarters will be located in Lusaka, Zambia.

He stated that critical and technical issues discussed during the conference will be addressed once the sub-region is fully operational.

“The three conferences commit themselves to presenting this project to their respective regional bodies, namely IMBISA and AMACEA. The membership of which they will uphold until further notice,” he said.

Association of Women in Religious Institute in Malawi (AWRIM) Chairperson Sister Janepher Selemani, who attended the conference as a delegate, expressed her commitment to working closely with the bishops in promoting church growth.
