CFT clears Mtambo name on False accusation of Siren Use ,and claims Chakwera doesn’t want Mwenefumbo

By Durell Namasani

Citizen for Transformation Movement (CFT) which is led by Commander in Chief Timothy Mtambo  has come to the rescue of its leader after media reports  falsely claimed that Mtambo Used Sirens on his whistle stops in Karonga Central and made statements that President Chakwera does not want UTM candidate to win. The reports indicated that Mtambo, who is Civic Education and National Unity Minister , in the company of fellow cabinet minister Richard Chimwendo Banda  used sirens on their vehicles, something that is only accorded to the President and his Vice. It has however been established that the reports were not true but was the work of political propaganda as campaigning hots up ahead of the by elections scheduled to take place on November 10th

In a statement signed by CFT communications strategist Negracious Justin, CFT had noted with shock and dismay of the malicious allegations taking rounds in the media, directed at Timothy Mtambo,  It is said that  an article published by the Nyasatimes on 25 October 2020, alleged that  Mtambo  together with the Minister of Homeland Security, Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda, used sirens on their convoy in Karonga, a privilege legally confined to the State President and Vice President in the political sphere.

The statement also clarified on the the other claims  made that; While conducting a political rally to drum up  support for the MCP candidate, Leonard Mwalwanda, Honourable Timothy Mtambo purportedly remarked that the State President does not  want Mr Tumpale Mwenefumbo, a candidate for UTM to win the by-election in the constituency.  CFT said it wanted to place it on record that  the aforesaid allegations are not true and are nothing but a product of a systematic  smear campaign and propaganda, perpetrated by CFT’s rivals groups and the UTM party agents  who it claims  are clearly on a mission to tarnish the image of the CFT and its leadership.

It also says the  allegations are also part of the rival’s overall strategy to sow seeds of division in the Tonse Alliance, led by his Excellency, Dr Lazarus Chakwera.

CFT made a statement weeks ago when it made it known to the public that the movement and its leader would support the candidacy of Leonard Mwlawanda , MCP candidate who is fighting for the role against former MP and UTM candidate Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo. Since Mtambo was seen campaigning in the area , he has received a barrage of attacks  from people not happy with his stance. CFT statement claims that most of the attacks are being perpetrated by Mwenefumbo . “ CFT records that this is not the first time the Mwenefumbo and UTM sponsored media personnel have published  this cheap propaganda which happen to surface each time Hon Mtambo visits the constituency to drum up support  for Mr Mwalwanda” reads the statement .

The movement has called on Media Houses and Journalists to make sure that they are responsible with there reporting so that only true  stories are published for public consumption.

“In the spirit of peace and responsible journalism, we implore on the media to verify the stories before being published  to avoid misleading the public on important issues”

The movement has threatened that stories that are aimed at reputation damage  will give them no choice but to seek legal action
