President Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Washington DC for the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit that Unites States of America President, Joe Biden is hosting from tomorrow, December 13,2022.
Chakwera who will be attending the Summit at the invitation of President Biden said the summit will foster new trade and investment linkages with USA and other multilateral institutions.
“I will also take an opportunity to advance Malawi’s interests on the economy, education, health, good governance, peace, security, and climate change among other areas.” Said President Chakwera writing on his official Facebook page upon his departure for USA.
The USALS will focus on renegotiating the parameters of investment and trade between Africa and USA in the context of the recently ratified Africa continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and President Chakwera is expected to use the summit to bid for greater US investment in the agro-industrialization agenda of Malawi 2063.
Upon his arrival in Washington DC, President Chakwera who has been accompanied by the country’s First Lady was welcomed by Malawi’s Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, Malawi’s Ambassador to USA, Justice Esme Chombo, and other senior Government Officials that are part of Malawi’s delegation to the summit.
The summit will focus on renegotiating the parameters of investment and trade between Africa and the US in the context of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
