President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera says time has come for Malawi to embrace green energy.

President Chakwera was speaking on Friday during the launch of the Malawi Carbon Market Initiative at Botanic Garden in Lilongwe.

Presidet Chakwera said the green energy is a viable option because other tried sources of energy have proved to be harmful to enviroment.

“As a nation, we have every reason to prefer a green economy over an economy that degrades and destroys the environment,” said President Chakwera

The Malawi leader emphasised that as the country is pursuing its developmental agenda it
must do away with costly miskes committed by developed countries that have threatened human existence.

Said President Chakwera: “In our pursuit of development, we must learn from the terrible mistakes of those nations that are already developed,”

The Carbon Market initiative is a joint arrangement between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Natural Resources aimed at using carbon for commercial purposes.
