President Lazarus Chakwera in the morning of Thursday, 16th March, 2023 took to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in the city of Blantyre to cheer Malawians who sustained various degrees of injuries from floods and landslides following Cyclone Freddy that has hit Southern Region since Friday last week.
Chakwera who was seemingly in pains while listening to what happened from the medical staff and patients themselves assured the victims that the government will take good care of them by boosting up the capacity of all health facilities for them to offer necessary treatment to the injured and those in trauma caused by the catastrophe.
President Chakwera also thanked the medical staff for their commitment and passion in working towards serving the citizenry during such times of disaster.
“Two words I can say to you is ‘Thank you’. I commend your dedication to your work. Without you we could have been in a much worse situation than now.” Said President Chakwera.
During the visit, Malawi leader toured emergency section ward, High Dependency Unit, Pediatrician, Women, and Men’s Wards among others.
QECH is receiving cases from all affected districts as it is the major referral health facility in the Southern Region.
President Chakwera went to Southern region on Wednesday to make sure he sees for himself and be with the victims as the nation nurses the wounds from the catastrophe that has so far claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands displaced.
