Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera says he is deeply concerned by the untimely death of the Mau anga hit maker Thomas Chenkhumba Chibade.

The President has since condoled the family with a total of MK1 million.

Chibade 37, died on Tuesday 18 October 2023 at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) after succumbing to organs failure.

Delivering a condolence message on behalf of Malawi State President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, at Chipala Primary School Ground, in Lilongwe, Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda said the president was concerned that young talent is going earlier before reaching the pick of their music career.

Chimwendo gave the example of the demise of vibrant musicians such as Matse, Atoti Manje, Achalume and others.

Chimwendo asked everyone not to politicise the death of Chibade but rather mourn him as any death.

This statement was directly in reference to what Musician Association of Malawi (MAM) said in which they said some politicians came at the funeral just to make a name.

Chimwendo chided the statement warning them that they will be invited for a round table discussion for them to explain about this statement.

MAM has since apologised to Chimwendo for the demeaning statement in time of mourning. The remains of Chibade have since been laid to rest at area 18 Cemetery in Lilongwe.
