Chakwera declares districts affected by ANA Cyclone Disaster areas -storms cause havoc in Some African countries

Following Tropical Cyclone ANA that hit hard some parts of Southern region of the country on Monday and Tuesday, the State President Lazarus Chakwera has declared all the districts affected by the Cyclone as the areas of disaster.

The declaration also comes barely a day after the leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa who advised Chakwera to make the declaration saying this will facilitate the humanitarian assitance for reconstruction and rehabilitation works of damaged properties.

The declaration is effective January 26, 2021

Latest report says Madagascar has seen at least 41 deaths and 100,000 people have been forced to flee their homes to makeshift shelters.

In Malawi, at least 19 people have died with the country suffering a nationwide power cut and some areas have been declared disaster zones.

Mozambique, meanwhile, reports more than a dozen deaths.

But officials there say the true number is still unknown, with 20,000 affected by the flooding.
