Chakwera leaves the country for SADC meeting in Congo

President Lazarus Chakwera has today left the country for Kishansa in the Democratic Republic of Congo ( DRC ) where he is expected to attend the 42and Ordinary Summit of the Southern Africa Development Community ( SADC), which is scheduled to take place on 17 and 18 August, 2022.


He was being escorted by Vice President Saulos Chilima and other government officials at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.


During the opening of the session meeting, Chakwera who is now outgoing Chairperson of SADC will deliver a keynote address before handing over the SADC chairmanship to Felex-Anoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Apart from delivering his keynote address, Chakwera will also hold bilateral meetings with other SADC leaders to promote cooperation on matters of mutual interest.

The outgoing SADC Chairperson will return home on Friday August 19, 2022 and the plane carrying him and his wife Monica Chakwera will arrive at the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe at 1:00 pm.

Chakwera was appointed chairman of SADC on 17 August,2021 at the SADC 41st Annual Summit held on 9 August to 19 August,2021 in Lilongwe, Malawi
