Chakwera to fly off to Qatar tomorrow

President Lazarus Chakwera will tomorrow leave the country for Doha, Qatar where he will attend the 5th United Nations ( UN) Conference on Least Developed Countries ( LDCs) to be held from March 4 to 9, 2023.

According to the statement from the ministry of foreign affairs, the president will attend the conference in his capacity as Global Chairperson of the coordinating bureau of the Least developed countries.


The statement says the plane carrying Chakwera will depart through Kamuzu International Airport ( KIA) in Lilongwe at 8:00 am.

It adds that following the background that Malawi chaired LCDs group since September, 2018, the meeting in Doha will the country’s chairmanship conclusion of the group.

Reads the statement in part ” During Malawi’s tenure of office, the country has actively promoted the interests of LCDs by facilitating the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

” In addition, Malawi offered critical oversight in the development and adoption of the Doha Programme of Action which was adopted in New York in March 2020.”

The statement, concludes that apart from the main conference itself, President Lazarus Chakwera will also attend various side events and hold bilateral meetings with representatives of various governments and international organizations in oder to promote Malawi’s interest.
