Presidential Advisor on Peace, Reconciliation and National unity , Rev Maurice Munthali has resigned from performing his duties.

In a letter this publication has in possession, Munthali has cited growing corruption in the Tonse Alliance Administration as a main reason for his resignation .

Part of the letter reads;” I have deeply and prayerfully reflected my official role and personal participation in the prevailling governance atmosphere marred by persistent corruption allegations and related scandals.

“I am sapiently troubled in my conscience to continue in the position you graciously appointed me into, consistently.”

It adds ” To be forthright, Your Excellency, our word on the myriad of governance issues rocking the country has hitherto fallen short of such approximate or adequate action as would give assurance and hope to Malawians that things will get better soon enough.

” To this end and despite the great gains we have made so far against some external forces beyond our control, I personally feel that as a government we have not provided the type of leadership and or direction that would meet the hopes of Malawians for a better life in the foreseeable future.”

In another letter, Muthali has also announced his resignation as Malawi Congress of Party ( MCP) Publicity Secretary on the similar issue.

However, he has wished the president
Well in persuing government duties towards exercising good governance.
