Zomba-based Red Lions FC have announced that their captain Chikoti Chirwa is set to leave the country for Mozambique to join Costa do Sol on an outright season long deal.
In a statement in our possession, the team’s general secretary Francis Chalulu says Chirwa was supposed to be in Mozambique by January 3, 2023 but it has been delayed because the club is waiting for an approval from Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Headquarters.
“We wrote a letter to the higher authorities for clearance since he is also a serving soldier in the Malawi Defence Force.
“Since we were on festive season holidays and just resumed work on Wednesday 4th January, we have the hope that the impending departure by the player will be given a seal of approval, ” says Chalulu in a statement.
This is another opportunity for the player who saw his deal with Polokwane City flop in January, 2021.
Born on March 9 1992, Chikoti Chirwa is a Malawian footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Red Lions and the Malawi national team.
He was included in Malawi’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
