The Commission of Inquiry which was instituted by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera mandated to inquire into circumstances prior to, during and after the aircraft incident from the time the aircraft departed from Kamuzu International Airport until it was discovered on 11th June, 2024, has commenced its work.
The aircraft accident which resulted in the death of the departed Vice President of the Republic of Malawi Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima and eight others, has raised millions of questions than answers and has brought in silence in the country.
The Commission has called on members of the general public who may have relevant information about the aircraft accident, to come forward and present the information to the Commission on what they know or heard or understand in respect of the accident.
In a press release dated 30th October, 2024 signed by its Chairperson Justice Jabbar Alide, the information to be submitted to the Commission can be in any language through oral testimony in person and written submission bearing their contact details of the person.
The Commission says the inquiries will be conducted from 08;00 a.m to 5;00 p.m starting with Mzimba from 4th-9th November, Zomba 11th to 14th November, Blantyre 15th to 16th November and Lilongwe 18th to 23rd November, 2024.
“The commission shall, in due course, inform the general public, the exact venues where the inquiries shall be held and it may extend or shorten the time during which they shall conduct the inquiry,” reads the statement in part.
