Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daud has emphasized the importance of having more anaesthesiologists in the country.
She made the remarks in Blantyre during the 4th graduation ceremony of 10 anaesthesiologists, including one Malawian, from the College of Anaesthesiologists of East, Central, and Southern Africa (CANECSA).
“We are thrilled to see one of our own graduating as an anaesthesiologist today.
“This is a significant milestone for our country, and we look forward to having more professionals in this field,” said Daud.
The Deputy Minister noted that some graduates received training abroad, highlighting the need for international cooperation in the health sector.
She emphasized the crucial role anaesthesiologists play in the healthcare system, particularly in surgery.
“As a country, we need more anaesthesiologists trained and deployed to our health facilities.
“We urge anyone who can support us to come forward and help us achieve our goal,” said Daud.
CANECSA President Dr. Mpoki Ulisubisya emphasized that the graduating anaesthesiologists will play a critical role in providing quality healthcare services to the people of their respective countries.
Anaesthesiologists are specialist doctors who are responsible for providing anaesthesia to patients for operations and procedures.
