Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a fiery statement on his Facebook page, taking aim at the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) over their reported moves to challenge the dominance of the U.S. Dollar in international trade.
In his post, Trump declared, “The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER.” He went on to demand a firm commitment from these nations that they would neither create a new BRICS currency nor endorse any other currency to replace the U.S. Dollar.
Trump issued a stark warning, stating that failure to comply would result in the imposition of 100% tariffs on goods from BRICS countries and an end to their access to the U.S. market. “They can go find another ‘sucker!’” he exclaimed, underscoring his resolve to protect the Dollar’s supremacy.
He concluded with a bold assertion: “There is no chance that the BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, and any Country that tries should wave goodbye to America.”
Trump’s remarks come amidst growing speculation about BRICS nations exploring alternatives to the Dollar in response to global economic shifts and geopolitical tensions. Proponents of a BRICS currency argue it could reduce dependency on the Dollar and enhance economic cooperation among member states.
The statement has already sparked debate among economic and political analysts. While some view it as a necessary stance to safeguard U.S. interests, others argue that it may escalate tensions with key trading partners and allies.
