Police in Dowa have arrested 35-year-old, Vuteni Shuga for allegedly assaulting his sister-in-law to death with a hoe handle. Shuga assaulted 45-year-old Kilness Moffat on August 7, 2023 at Tsindwi Village in the district.
According to Dowa Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Alice Sitima, there were some alleged land disputes between the two families.
Sitima said issues turned worse on Monday morning when Fred Chawazi, husband to the deceased, on his way from a garden met his brother Shuga.
Shuga assaulted Chawazi for allegedly practicing witchcraft after an argument. Chawazi reported the matter to Nalunga Police.
Sitima said Moffat was taken to Nalunga Health Centre where she was referred to Dowa District Hospital but died on Tuesday while receiving treatment.
Postmortem results established death was due to severe head injuries.
Shuga, who hails from Zintambira Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Msakambewa in Dowa, was arrested on Tuesday and is expected to appear before court soon to answer murder charge.
