As Malawi heads toward the 2025 General Elections, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Southern Region Chapter has announced a major fundraising dinner scheduled for November 16, 2024, at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre. The event will be graced by former President and DPP leader, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, as the Guest of Honour, with DPP Vice President for the Southern Region and former Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamvekha as the host.

The fundraising dinner, set to begin at 6:30 PM, aims to rally support and resources for DPP’s efforts in the upcoming elections, where the party is positioning itself to regain power. It will bring together DPP supporters, leaders, business allies, and well-wishers to discuss the party’s vision and its strategies for addressing the nation’s challenges.

Mutharika to Deliver Keynote Address

Professor Mutharika, who led Malawi from 2014 to 2020, is expected to deliver a keynote address highlighting DPP’s renewed commitment to economic stability, national security, and social development. Known for his focus on infrastructure and economic policies during his tenure, Mutharika’s speech will aim to remind supporters of DPP’s legacy while setting the stage for the party’s plans for 2025.

“The DPP stands ready to bring real change and sustainable development to Malawi. Our focus remains on economic growth, job creation, and national unity. The journey to 2025 is not just for us as a party but for every Malawian seeking a brighter future,” Mutharika is expected to affirm in his address.

Mwanamvekha to Lead Fundraising Efforts

As host of the evening, Joseph Mwanamvekha, who served as Finance Minister during Mutharika’s administration, will lead the fundraising efforts, aiming to mobilize financial support for the party’s election campaigns and community development projects. Mwanamvekha’s experience in finance and public service is anticipated to strengthen DPP’s message of fiscal responsibility and economic revitalization.

> “Our mission is to restore the promise of prosperity for every Malawian, especially in these challenging times. This dinner represents an opportunity for DPP supporters to contribute to a shared vision for Malawi’s future,” Mwanamvekha is expected to say.
