Brenda Saidi, a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member and former parliamentary candidate for Nkhotakota South, is recovering well after being shot in the arm during an incident involving the police in Lilongwe.
The incident occurred on a day when DPP supporters gathered at Area 3 Police Station to see Alfred Gangata, a party member who had been detained. During the gathering, tensions escalated, resulting in the police shooting Saidi in the arm.
Following the incident, Mary Navicha, the DPP National Director of Women, visited Saidi at the hospital where she is receiving medical care. Navicha expressed the party’s solidarity and support for Saidi, wishing her a speedy recovery.
“This is a painful moment for us as a party. We stand with Brenda Saidi, and we continue to demand justice for the violence she has endured. We hope she recovers fully and returns to her vital role in the party,” said Navicha.
