Dr. Michael Usi Engages Grassroots Communities in Thyolo District

By Burnett Munthali

Vice President Dr. Michael Usi today visited Gunda Primary School grounds in Traditional Authority Ndalama, Thyolo District, as part of his ongoing efforts to engage with grassroots communities and address their pressing needs.

The visit highlighted the Vice President’s commitment to directly interacting with citizens and understanding their challenges. In his address, Dr. Usi emphasized the importance of working collaboratively to improve living conditions and ensure that vulnerable populations receive the necessary support.

“Leadership is not about sitting in offices; it is about coming to the people, listening to their concerns, and finding solutions together,” said Dr. Usi.

During the engagement, the Vice President distributed essential items to assist vulnerable families in the area. These items included maize flour, groundnuts, mosquito coils, and clothing. The donations are part of broader government efforts to alleviate the hardships faced by communities amid economic challenges and the ongoing recovery from natural disasters.

Community members expressed gratitude for the visit and the support provided. “We are thankful for the Vice President’s visit and his generosity. It shows that our leaders care about us,” said one resident.

Dr. Usi’s visit to Thyolo underscores the administration’s dedication to fostering closer ties with communities and ensuring equitable distribution of resources. This grassroots engagement initiative is expected to continue in other parts of the country as the Vice President seeks to bridge the gap between government and the people.

As he concluded the visit, Dr. Usi called on local leaders to work together to identify and address community challenges effectively. He reiterated his commitment to uplifting marginalized populations and building a more resilient Malawi.
