A delegation from the Embassy of Ireland on Wednesday visited Parliament to appreciate the work of the legislature and learn of possible partnerships that could be developed.
The Deputy Head of Mission Diarmuid McClean led the delegation which included members of staff of the embassy.
The Deputy Clerk of Parliament (Parliamentary Service) Mr. Jeffrey Mwenyeheli briefed the delegation on the Malawi Parliament system and the various roles that it plays.
The delegation raised a number of questions on the process of bills and Committee work before they were led to the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Catherine Gotani Hara for a courtesy call.
In her remarks, the Speaker said she was glad that the deputy ambassador brought his whole team from the embassy to Parliament.
She said Parliament appreciates support it receives from its partners and would explore means that the two could work together in future.
In his remarks, the deputy head of mission expressed thanks for the candid response to their questions and said there would be further discussions on partnerships in areas such as research element of bills and other matters that come before Parliament.
