Police in Malawi capital, Lilongwe have arrested a 26-year-old habitual car burglar at Area 3 National Bank of Malawi (NBM) carpark.
The suspect has been identified as Missi Selemani.
According to Lilongwe Police Station Publicist Hastings Chigalu, Selemani, who is also known as ‘Gobozo’ among his peers, was arrested in the afternoon of Wednesday while trying to sneak out of a Mazda Bongo Minibus, with a stolen hustle bag that contained K1,483, 900 whose owner was then transacting in the NBM banking hall.
Chigalu says the owner parked the vehicle in between National Bank and Bata Retail Shop carpark space and went into the bank.
“The suspect saw a hustle bag through the transparent window of the vehicle and judged that it was containing cash, the suspect quickly opened the driver’s door using his keys before grabbing it to start.
“This is when police officers who were within the vicinity, arrested the suspect after they noticed his strange behaviour,” says Chigalu.
He says the suspect who also jailed in the past for a similar offence will appear in court soon to face a charge of; Theft from a Motor Vehicle.
Selemani hails from Lewu Village, Traditional Authority Tambala in Dedza District.
