The Football Association of Malawi (FAM), through its Disciplinary Committee,has on Sunday December 3,2023 yet again rebuffed second appeal by Mighty Mukuru Wanderers which it lodged on charges of misconduct during their 2023 Airtel Top 8 first leg quarter final match against Silver Strikers on September 23,2023 at the Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.
Wanderers appealed to the disciplinary committee after the competition’s committee insisted that the Nomads were guilty as charged on all counts of misconduct during the match.
But in a notification letter dated December 2, 2023 and signed by FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda, the association has rejected the second appeal saying: “All matters raised by Wanderers are inconsequential and the FAM disciplinary committee did not see need to rule on those issues, [and] did not find any reason to depart from the ruling of the FAM competitions committee.
“For avoidance of doubt, it is the considered opinion of the FAM disciplinary committee that the decision ofthe FAM competitions committee be, and is hereby upheld in its entirety. A full determination will follow shortly.”
The competitions committee resolved to award the match to Silver by a margin of two goals to zero as Wanderers were found at fought for causing the abandonment of the match.
Wanderers were also fined K500 000 for failure to control their supporters and that the club should bear the cost of repair and restoration of damaged seats at the stadium pegged at K22 million.
They were further fined K2 million for bringing the game of football into disrepute.
Meanwhile, the second leg has been rescheduled for Wednesday next week at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
