The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) says will next year introduce a National Division League(NDL), which will serve as a platform for teams from various regions to compete and potentially earn promotion to the Super League.
FAM President Fleetwood Haiya has confirmed the development.
He says, a special committee has already been established to oversee the implementation of this new format and ensure its success.
Says Haiya:”This move by FAM is a significant step towards promoting football development in Malawi.
“The national division league will provide a platform for teams from all regions to compete and potentially earn promotion to the Super League, which will increase competition and improve the overall quality of football in the country.
“Additionally, this new format will provide more opportunities for teams from rural areas to participate in top-level football, which will help to promote football development in these areas.”
Previously, teams in the top league were selected from regional tournaments, but this new format will see teams from all regions compete together.
Meanwhile, the new development has been welcomed by football enthusiasts, who believe it will provide a more competitive and inclusive environment for teams to showcase their skills.
