First-half goal from Vincent Nyangulu gave Mighty Wanderers victory over Silver Strikers in a TNM Super League match that took place on Saturday at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
In an open first half, the central bankers were first to threaten through Stain Davie and Blessings Tembo but Wanderers defense tried their best to denie the two an early goal.
Silver looked the more enterprising side early on but Wanderers broke through Nyangulu after receiving a pass from Stanley Sanudi.
Davie had a chance to level the score-line but his header was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa
In the second half, Wanderers looked more determined to increase the lead as Yamikan Chester and Vitumbiko Kumwenda exchanged brilliant passes but Francis Mulimbika’s touch went wide.
On the other hand Silver’s search for an equaliser continued as Blessings Tembo, Stain Davie and Maxwell Phodo tried to find the back of the net but Wanderers defense made it possible to denie the home side the much needed equaliser.
Wanderes made a double substitution bringing in Peter Cholopi and Felix Zulu for Peter Wadabwa and Vitumbiko Kumwenda before bringing in Mike Kaziputa for man of the match, Yamikani Chester.
Silver brought in Thuso Paipi, Frank Banda and Chinsinsi Maonga for Zebron Kalima, Maxwell Phodo and Blessings Tembo before bringing in Nixon Mwase and Patrick Macheso for Levison Maganizo and Young Chimodzi jnr.
The win for Nomads has reduced the gap to seven points with the central bankers who are perched on second position with 52 points but Silver have played two games more than Wanderers.
