Former DPP MP Mark Botomani to stand as Independent

By Durell Namasani

The former DPP member who is also legislator for Zomba Chisi Mark Botomani , has declared that he will contest for a parliamentary seat as an independent. He made the revelation during an MBC exclusive interview he had with Alinafe Mlumbe that aired on Sunday evening.

Botomani who also held the position of Minister of Information during the DPP regime was unceremoniously expelled from the party in 2024 for what was deemed as undermining Mutharika’s authority and disrespecting party leadership contrary to Article 6 of the DPP constitution for calling, leading and attending the December 6 2023 nullified national governing council (NGC) meeting in Lilongwe.

In the interview Botomani clarified that many people thought he would go and join Kondwani Nankhumwa party and stand on its ticket
“Let me make this clear , when I was expelled from DPP I went to my constituents’ and many of them advised me that they would want me to be an independent member of parliament” said Botomani.
He highlighted that people of his constituents are the ones that matter for him and he had to follow their wishes.

“I am already a candidate as it is and on 16 September I am standing as an independent candidate” He however revealed that he will be standing in the newly demarcated constitution of Zomba Matiya Constituency
