Goalkeeper William Thole scores winning penalty as Wanderers beat Moyale 5-4 in Airtel Top 8 shootout

Goalkeeper William Thole was Mighty Wanderers’ goalscoring hero as the Lali Lubani side beat Moyale Barracks 5-4 on penalties to progress to the Airtel Top 8 semifinals in a match that took place at Chitowe Stadium on Saturday.

The former Tigers goalkeeper scored the only goal of the match in regulation time from the penalty sport after a Moyale Barracks defender handled the ball in the box.

Thole came back to hit the back of the net again from the sport after he was trusted to play the last penalty for Wanderers during the penalty shootout.

Moyale Barracks came in the game with a goal advantage having beaten Wanderers 1-0 during the first leg at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre and man of the moment Lloyd Njaliwa scored the only goal of the match.

With Moyale winning the first leg 1-0 and Wanderers winning the second leg with the same margin, the match had to go into the penalty shootout.

Njaliwa went from a hero to a villain after missing the first penalty for the Lions of Kaning’ina to end the match 5-4 in favour of the visiting side.

Moyale scored their penalties through Raphael Phiri, Deus Nkutu, Topicho Njewa and Sandras Munthali

On the other hand Alfred Manyozo Junior, Peter Cholopi, Stanley Sanudi , Francis Mkonda and Thole scored for Wanderers.

In the Airtel Top 8 on Sunday, Nyasa Big Bullets will be away against Mafco FC at the same venue.

The People’s team won the first leg 3-1 at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
