Dowa Police on October 16, 2024, arrested Senior Group Village Headman Ngwere, real name Christopher Dyson, 39, for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl at Chezi.
The victim reported to the Chezi Police Unit that some time ago, the suspect had asked her if she had reached puberty and whether she had been with a man before—questions that made her uncomfortable.
Then, on September 20, 2024, at around 13:00 hours Ngwere visited the victim’s house and inquired if her father was around. She informed him that her father was inside the house, sleeping, but the suspect expressed disbelief, noting that there were no shoes on the doorstep.
The chief then grabbed the victim, took her into her brother’s bedroom, forcibly undressed her, and had unprotected sex with her.
Afterward, he offered the victim K5,000 in 1,000 kwacha notes, instructing her not to tell anyone. When she refused the money, he shoved it inside her blouse and left.
The victim revealed the ordeal on October 15, 2024.
The Police referred the victim to the hospital for examination, which revealed abnormal vaginal discharge and a ruptured hymen.
The suspect is currently in custody, awaiting court proceedings.
He hails from Ngwere Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula, in Dowa District.
