Halls Truck Division (HTD) Malawi Limited on Thursday unveiled uniforms for the six teams that will take part in this year’s HTD Beach Soccer National Championship scheduled for Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima this weekend.
The unveiling ceremony took place at HTD Offices at Ginnery Corner in Blantyre.
Speaking at the ceremony HTD’s Finance and Administration Officer Jawadi Medi said the company’s aim is to improve the welfare of the Beach Soccer athletes in the country.
He said, “Our aim is to make sure that the athletes are motivated . You know by the end of this two-day event, the winner will walk away with money but we added the kits to ensure we motivate and encourage the players to do extra more in order to get something at the end of the games.”
In his remarks, Beach Soccer Association Chairperson Gift Chimbalanga hailed HTD for the gesture saying his association is looking forward to an entertaining weekend in the Lakeshore district.
“We are very grateful to HTD for this timely gesture. This is a period where funds are difficult to come by but HTD stands out and we are very thankful for that.
We are promising fans that will watch the games to expect nothing but entertaining games from the six teams,” he said.
Apart from the games, people will also be entertained by music performances by man of the moment Zeze Kingston and Afro-pop singer Kelly Kay.
The draw for the competition took place last week when the participating teams were divided into two group of three teams.
Nkopola, Beach Eagles, and Munali were placed in group A while Nyasa, Deep Bay, and Chipala completed group B.
Last year, HTD became the first company to sponsor a Beach Soccer national competition in the country after announcing a two year deal worth K20 million a year.
The winner of this year’s competition will receive MK3 million, with the Runner-up getting MK1 million whilst MK500 000 will go to the third placed team.
