In an effort to bring dignity and create a more hygienic and safe environment for cholera patients and hospital staff, Illovo Sugar Malawi constructed five pit latrines and five bathrooms at Limbe Health Centre in Blantyre
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Monday, the company’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Maureen Kachingwe, said the basic amenities will help prevent the spread of other diseases in places where patients may already be vulnerable to infections.

“We hope that this gesture will inspire others to contribute towards social responsibility,” she said.
Kachingwe said he donation is completing a total pledge of K9.2 million which the company made in February when it had donated various items to the facility including 51 buckets of chlorine, washing powder, a tent and 30 cartons of soap tablets.
Illovo Sugar Malawi is a leading producer and supplier of sugar in Malawi.
