In a gesture of goodwill and commitment to supporting local communities, Illovo Sugar Malawi (ISM) donated 6,500 bags of maize to households surrounding Paramount Chief Lundu in Chikwawa on Friday. Each bag weighed 25 kilograms, providing a significant boost to food security in the region.
This initiative was made possible through ISM’s investment of over 240 million kwacha and the utilization of 46 hectares of land. The donation is aligned with ISM’s Thriving Community purpose, which prioritizes supporting local communities and ensuring a positive impact on their well-being.
The maize donation targets 14 chiefs, including Paramount Chief Lundu, six Senior Chiefs, three Traditional Authorities, and four Sub-Traditional Authorities. This comprehensive approach ensures that the support reaches a wide range of communities in the Chikwawa region.
By providing essential food supplies to vulnerable households, ISM’s donation is expected to bring relief to families struggling with food insecurity. The initiative demonstrates the company’s dedication to making a positive impact on the communities it operates in.
