The Israeli government has hailed Malawi as a “steadfast and loyal friend” of Israel, reinforcing the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations. Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel made the remarks during her official reception in Lilongwe, acknowledging Malawi’s solidarity following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.

Haskel stated that Israel remains committed to supporting Malawi in various sectors, including agriculture, and emphasized the importance of maintaining strong alliances across Africa. She expressed gratitude for Malawi’s continued partnership.
Malawian Foreign Minister Nancy Tembo reaffirmed the government’s support for Israel, highlighting the long-standing cooperation between the two nations. She noted Israel’s contributions to Malawi’s development and expressed hope for the continuation of joint programs, including agricultural initiatives.
Tembo also addressed challenges in the labor export arrangement, where Malawian youths work in Israel, and expressed confidence in resolving issues to facilitate more opportunities.
Haskel is scheduled to depart Malawi on Monday afternoon, concluding her diplomatic visit. The discussions underscored the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
