The Joaquim Chissano University will in June confer an Honorary Doctorate degree in International Cooperation for Development on President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.
Presenting a letter of invitation to the Malawi leader at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Chancellor of Joaquim Chissano University, Professor Jose Magode said President Chakwera will have the degree conferred upon him at a ceremony that will be held at the University’s Campus in Mozambique on 24th June, 2024.
Receiving the invitation letter, President Chakwera hailed the university for honoring him in this manner.
He said the award is a testament to the cordial relationship that exists between Malawi and Mozambique.
“I am so excited for this gesture. I am so humbled,” added President Chakwera.
“Malawi and Mozambique are one. This honour is a testimony of our improved relationship.”
President Chakwera expressed delight that Malawi and Mozambique have improved their relationship.
The renewed ties have among other things enabled trade; the establishment of the Mozambique – Malawi electricity interconnection deal; refurbishment of the Nacala railway line, as well as free movement of people between the two countries.
