Joyce Chitsulo, the Member of Parliament for Mwanza West, has stirred controversy by alleging that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) possesses evidence confirming her defection to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Chitsulo disclosed that she received a letter from the Clerk of Parliament, Catherine Gotani Hara, informing her of allegations raised by DPP against her. The accusations involve purported actions aimed at undermining Section 65 of the country’s laws.
However, Chitsulo clarified to Times 360 Malawi that she continues to serve her constituents regardless of political affiliations. She expressed her intention to remain focused on serving the people of her constituency rather than engaging in partisan politics.
“I attended a meeting with Richard Chimwendo Banda, who claimed I had been associated with developmental issues, and a government official from Mwanza told me that your enemies of small states are not the MCP party,” said Chitsulo.
They also said that the DPP should not provide a financial statement to help them campaign for the election petition.
