Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, has praised Alliance for a Green Revolution Africa (AGRA) for its dedication to transforming the agriculture sector in Malawi.
Speaking on Wednesday at the launch of the five-year Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture Programme at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), Kawale expressed the Ministry’s commitment to empowering youth to drive food system transformation and create dignified job opportunities for young people, including those with disabilities.
“As the Ministry of Agriculture, we are passionate about cultivating a bright future for Malawi with a legacy of agriculture excellence,” Kawale said .
On his part, Minister of Youth and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire, echoed Kawale’s sentiment, acknowledging the immense potential of youth in developing the country through agriculture.
He said:”Young people are the driving force for economic growth, and this programme is a significant step towards empowering them through entrepreneurship in the agriculture sector.”
Secretary for Youth and Sports, Isaac Katopola, said that the initiative marks a crucial milestone in achieving sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient food systems.
The programme launch, themed “Empowering Youth for Decent Jobs and Climate-Resilient Food Systems,” featured lively discussions on addressing challenges and opportunities for sustainable food systems transformation in Malawi.
The event was a resounding success, paving the way for a brighter future for Malawi’s agriculture sector.
