By Patrick Ng’ambi

As cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) keep on escalating in the country, an Afro Reggae Dancehall artist, Cailly Yusuf, known in music showbiz as Kellie Divine will on Monday release a single track titled “Why”, a song which is denouncing the vice.

In an interview Friday, Divine said life experiences inspired her to come up with the concept as GBV is becoming the order of the day in most Malawian households saying some people suffer in marriages because they do not speak out.

The artist said she has the ability of addressing issues that affect people in the society through artistic innovations such as music because it has the power to change people’s mindset.

The song which has been produced by Funwayo Martin Levi Zililo Mumba alias “Martin Anjelz” of In-house Media will be premiered on MBC Radio 2 FM in a program which will be hosted by the radio’s Disco Joker (DJ) Joy Nathu on Monday.

Nathu said it is very important for artists to speak out on issues that affect the society in general saying they (artists) have a greater impact of addressing the vice as they already have an existing fan base that is always ready to listen to them.

Commenting on the development, Director for Purple Innovation for Women and Girls, Patricia Mtungila, advised musicians in the country to tackle the issue of GBV in their productions.
