The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Kuhes) will from November 24 to 25 hold a research dissemination conference in Blantyre where participants are expected to discuss and reflect on improving quality of health through multidisciplinary research and innovations.
The conference is a gathering of local and international research scientists, public health practitioners and policy-makers.
Briefing the media in Blantyre, Kuhes vice chancellor Macpherson Mallewa said this is a chance for researchers to share their research findings, network with other researchers and help inform policy.
Said Mallewa: “The conference is key to dealing with health challenges in Malawi and beyond. There is a lot of research findings that we want to share with our stakeholders and policy makers so that they know what impact it may have on the health and economy of the nation.”
This year, the conference targets about 800 participants and more than 240 abstracts.
In his remarks, chairperson of the finance and fundraising subcommittee George Namandwa called on institutions and organisations to support the conference through finance donations saying they are running on a deficit.
“Our total budget is K155 million, we have managed to collect K34 million from our donours and we expect to collect K28 million from the conference funds, so far we have a deficit of K93 million,” he said.
