Leonard Mwalwanda Elected Deputy Regional Chairperson for MCP in North-North Region

In a decisive electoral victory that signals a new chapter for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Leonard Mwalwanda has been elected as the Deputy Regional Chairperson for the North-North region. The election, held recently in Karonga, showcased Mwalwanda’s strong appeal, as he secured a total of 102 votes, clearly positioning him for a pivotal role in the party’s strategy to bolster its presence and operational effectiveness in the area.

Mwalwanda faced two challengers in this election: Abraham Mwakhwawa, who garnered 37 votes, and James Mwaisemba, who received 24 votes. With a total of 166 votes cast—three of which were declared null and void—Mwalwanda’s victory is a testament to the confidence that party members have in his leadership capabilities.

In his victory speech, Mwalwanda expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters. “I am thankful for the trust you have placed in me. I am excited to take on this responsibility and work alongside my colleagues in the regional committee to ensure that we strengthen our party and address the needs of our constituents,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to collaboration and community engagement.

The election’s smooth proceedings and outcomes were acknowledged by Uchizi Mkandawire, the MCP’s Second Deputy Secretary General and the outgoing Deputy Regional Chairperson for North-North. He congratulated Mwalwanda and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure, reinforcing a supportive transition within the party’s leadership structure.

Mwalwanda’s election comes at a crucial time for the MCP, which is actively working to solidify its influence across various regions in Malawi.
