Likoma, Chitipa, Mzuzu City (Mzimba), and Karonga are among the top 10 best-performing districts in the recently released Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) exam results.
The Central Region has also secured two spots, with Lilongwe City and Ntchisi ranking among the top-performing districts.
Meanwhile, the Southern Region claims three of the top 10 spots, with Blantyre, Nsanje, and Mulanje making the list.
Presenting the results on Monday September 16,2024, MANEB Executive Director Dorothy Nampota revealed that 177,434 students sat for the 2024 MSCE exams.
She said out of this, 97,222 candidates have passed, translating to a pass rate of 54.79%.
Nampota said this shows a slight improvement from the 2023 pass rate of 54.40%.
She indicated that among the successful candidates, 56,415 are male, and 40,807 are female.
She said Zomba Urban is the highest-performing district with a 69.7% pass rate, while Machinga ranked lowest with a pass rate of 47.3%.
The top 10 best-performing districts, in descending order, are as follows:
1. Zomba Urban – 69.7%
2. Lilongwe City – 68.43%
3. Likoma – 66.67%
4. Chitipa – 66.67%
5. Blantyre – 64.45%
6. Mzuzu City – 63.71%
7. Dedza – 63.11%
8. Karonga – 61.87%
9. Mulanje – 61.12%
10. Ntchisi – 60.98%
11. Nsanje – 60.86%
